why wooden wicks
and how to
care for them?

Our wooden wicks offer an exceptional sensory experience you will love with their cozy, crackling sounds and flickering, dancing light. They are also FSC certified and a cleaner burning alternative to cotton wicks. We strive to source the best quality wicks available to ensure optimal performance but, due to the natural nature of wooden wicks, they sometimes perform differently and require some extra love. Following these simple steps before each and every lighting will help ensure the perfect burn.

Your new premium Cedar & Sea wood wick candle comes pre- trimmed and ready to light up your life with warm and comfy vibes,

When lighting it for the first time,
light the wick where the wax meets the wood and hold it there for a few seconds—don’t light it at the top.

Ensure a full melt pool that is approximately ⅛” deep before extinguishing to avoid tunneling. This is especially important on the first burn and can take 3-4 hours, otherwise it will compromise the performance of the candle.

Ensure you trim your wick with a candle trimmer before each and every burn to get rid of any charred wood from previous burns. Be careful not to cut it too short or it may not burn optimally. 1/8” is perfect.

If you notice the flame getting too high after burning for a while, blow out your candle and let it reset for a few hours then just trim the wick down to ⅛ inch. That should bring the flame back to the perfect height.

Even a gentle breeze from a draft, window,
or air vent can cause your candle to burn quickly and unevenly. So if you see the flame flickering and blowing, move your candle somewhere else.

General candle safety

Make every moment special with our hand-crafted candles. Whether you're looking to unwind and chill with a good book or set the mood for a cozy evening, please do it safely.

  •  Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours. This can cause an unstable, large flame.

  • Before every new burn, use a wick trimmer and trim your wick to 1/8".

  • When your wick reaches 1/2 inch from bottom, it’s time for a new candle. Do not risk burning further or glass may get too hot and shatter.

  • Always burn on a heat-safe surface way from drafts and anything flammable.

  • Never, ever leave your candle unattended.

  • Burn safe and keep out of reach of children and pets.

frequently asked questions

  • Our candles are scented with high quality fragrance oils and are carefully sourced to ensure they are phthalate free and safe for your family and pets.

  • This will happen when you don’t allow your candle to melt to a full melt pool that extends to the edges of the glass and sits at approx ⅛” deep. This is very important on the first burn. If you don’t have hours to invest in this initial burn, save your new candle for another time.

  • All our candles have been cured for a minimum of two weeks upon your receipt. They typically have a shelf life of approx a year. Candles with any percentage of vanilla can discolour over time.

  • Absolutely! All out candle vessels use removable labels to make repurposing super easy. The 9oz glass vessels make great vanity and desk organizers and make the perfect planter for succulents! And the 8oz and 4oz jars are food safe and have unlimited uses. Soaking the vessels in hot, soapy water should help you pop out the remaining wax. If you find there is residue left, a little rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone while the wax is still warm from the soak will do the trick. Then ensure all vessels are then washed in hot, soapy water.
